Stephen Lang Will Return For All Three Avatar Sequels

So not only are we getting Avatar 2, but we're also getting Avatar 3 and Avatar 4. And who are we kidding, I'm sure we'll be getting Avatar 5 and Avatar 6 as well, but those haven't been confirmed just yet. We'll have to wait until the original film's sequel makes $2 billion at the box office to hear more news on those.

So not only are we getting Avatar 2, but we’re also getting Avatar 3 and Avatar 4. And who are we kidding, I’m sure we’ll be getting Avatar 5 and Avatar 6 as well, but those haven’t been confirmed just yet. We’ll have to wait until the original film’s sequel makes $2 billion at the box office to hear more news on those.

For now though, all the focus is on the second, third and fourth instalments in James Cameron’s love it or hate it franchise and today, we’re hearing that Colonel Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang in the original film, will return for the sequels.

Speaking to Deadline, Cameron had this to say:

Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back. I’m not going to say exactly HOW we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend. When you have a science-fiction series, a science-fiction franchise, you’re never dead, unless your DNA is expunged from the universe. And then there’s always time travel!

Interesting James, very interesting.

Personally, I’m still not on board the Avatar 2 train. I can’t say I really enjoyed the original and though I appreciate its technical feats, the story left a lot to be desired, which is part of the reason that I’m so hesitant about the sequel.

Now that Cameron has the tech aspects under control, maybe he’ll be able to place a greater focus on the plot. If Avatar 2 turns out to be just another exercise in showing off how far the director can push the technology, I’m going to be very disappointed. The film needs a strong script and fully developed characters to compliment its remarkable visuals. If it can achieve that, then we’ll have something truly special. As of now though, I’m not too confident that this will be case.

Anyways, there you have it, Stephen Lang will be returning for Avatar 2 and its sequels. How Cameron will bring him back is anyone’s guess but feel free to speculate in the comments section below.
