What’s Task Force X without Deadshot and Harley Quinn? And who can forget Jared Leto’s hotly contested turn as the Clown Prince of Crime?

Thankfully, they’ll be back on our screens fairly soon, as Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Leto (The Joker) are all expected to reprise their respective roles for Suicide Squad 2.

Word comes by way of Variety, after the outlet confirmed Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Fifty Shades of Grey) has now stepped in to produce the anti-hero pic. The article goes on to mention that “Gavin O’Connor is on board to write and direct the sequel to Suicide Squad, which stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto.”

It’s not exactly what one would call official confirmation, as Variety merely mentions the trio’s involvement in passing. Plus, this isn’t coming from Warner’s official channels, so things are still subject to change.

Because although Will Smith and Margot Robbie are ostensibly locked in for Suicide Squad 2, Jared Leto’s commitment has come into question following the announcement that Warner Bros. is developing a Joker origins movie.

It’s by no means the only DC project floating around the ether, as Robbie is also set to appear in Gotham City Sirens and Joker and Harley Quinn, an embryonic spinoff centering on the fiery, “messed up” love affair brewing between the two DC icons. So, even if Leto decides to skip Task Force X’s second outing, there’s always the chance to reunite with his puddin’ at a later date.

As mentioned above, no other details were disclosed at press time, though it’s understood Gavin O’Connor’s Suicide Squad sequel will enter production before the year’s end, by which point we’ll be getting very, very excited about Aquaman.
