Deadline is reporting today that director Jim Mickle has struck a deal to helm an untitled thriller for STX Entertainment based off a script by Daniel Casey.

Set to take the lead role is Sylvester Stallone, who will play “an aging ex-con with more regrets than memories. Upon hearing about his son’s death his solitude is quickly broken as he must now protect the only family he has left and avenge a son he hardly knew.”

Other than that, details on the project are scarce, but there’s certainly reason to be excited for this one, despite the generic sounding plot. For starters, Stallone is coming off one of the best performances of his career in Creed and for now, we’re optimistic that he’ll be able to keep the momentum going through his next few projects, at the very least.

And then there’s also Jim Mickle. The extremely talented filmmaker impressed us all with both Stake Land and Cold in July, two excellent outings that really showed us what he’s capable of behind the camera. The latter is actually one of my favorite movies in recent years and I look forward to see what he can do with this particular project.

Tell us, does the prospect of Jim Mickle and Sylvester Stallone teaming up excite you as much as it does us? Sound off below with your thoughts!
