Sylvester Stallone To Turn Rocky Into A Musical

Sylvester Stallone has starred in all four films in the Rocky franchise, but now he wants to take on a different role: producer. Not in a fifth Rocky film, but in an adaptation of the feature that would take it off the big screen and onto the stage, as a musical no less. The show, which is still being developed, is a collaboration between Stallone and world champion boxing brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko. All three would produce the musical along with Kevin King Templeton (The Expendables).

Also attached to the project, Thomas Meehan, Tony Award-winning writer of The Producers, who is set to write the story that Alex Timbers will direct.  The music will be composed by lyricist Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty – known for their work together on Ragtime.  Some of the songs that will make the transition along with the characters include the iconic ‘Eye of the Tiger,” “Gonna Fly Now,” and “Take You Back.”
