In next May’s Avengers: Infinity War, the villain will finally make his presence felt. And it seems that moviegoers can’t wait to finally see the purple tyrant in action. Fandango ran a poll that accrued over 8,000 votes, with Thanos being named as the most anticipated movie antagonist of 2018, beating many other exciting bad guys from all genres.

In second place, for instance, was Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald. After cameoing at the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the dark wizard will play a bigger role in November’s sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald. This is a surprisingly high placement for Depp’s character, too, considering the sizeable backlash against his casting in the franchise following the domestic abuse allegations leveled at the actor.

In third place is another Marvel villain – Erik Killmonger, King T’Challa’s nemesis in Black Panther. Michael B. Jordan recently talked about how he was inspired by the likes of Heath Ledger’s Joker and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto for the role, so hopefully he’ll live up to those lofty influences.

In fourth place, meanwhile, is Jessica Chastain’s still unnamed villain in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. It seems fans are excited enough to see the actress join the X-Men universe even without knowing who she’s playing. That said, given the information on hand to us at the moment, we can guess that Chastain is portraying the shapeshifting Skrull empress. Finally, fifth place goes to Michael Myers, seeing as the horror legend is returning in the new Halloween movie that’s on the way.

Be sure to check out Josh Brolin as Thanos when Avengers: Infinity War lands in cinemas on May 4th.
