Turns Out Thanos’ Backstory Wasn’t Filmed For Avengers: Infinity War

In this digital age, it's much easier for rumors to spread then ever before. Thus, urban legends surrounding various films seemingly grow by the day. Avengers: Infinity War, of course, was in no way immune to such things, which we'll discuss right now.

To be more specific, it’s the issue of Thanos’ backstory we intend on addressing, something that’s actually been a hot topic in recent months. Even when the movie was due to arrive in theaters, True Believers had been wondering if indeed the Mad Titan’s past would be detailed. But aside from flashbacks involving young Gamora and the like, Joe and Anthony Russo decided to instead focus on the present.

Similarly, there were whispers of an extended cut to be included on the Blu-ray release that’d include 30 additional minutes of footage exploring the big bad’s history, but that notion was swiftly shot down. I guess you’ll just have to retreat to comic books for such things.

In fact, according to Comic Book Movie, this material “never made it past the scripting stage,” so there’s nothing to include on a souped-up home video release even if Disney wanted to go that route. Please note that CBM had the chance to digest the bonus content included on the Blu-ray ahead of it hitting shelves, so that’s how they were able to get their hands on this information.

If we’re to circle back to the part about the scripting stage, it can then become easy to understand how rumors of an extended cut grew. Perhaps certain proposed plot points leaked outside of Marvel Studios’ offices, with a game of telephone ensuing afterwards. That’s at least one possibility, I suppose.

Anyways, if you’d like to delve further into this and various other areas of the film’s production, then be sure to pick up Avengers: Infinity War when it arrives on Blu-ray on August 14th. Or, you could click here for a chance to win a copy.
