First spotted by LRM, the latest Infinity War tidbit was buried in today’s Digital HD release of Doctor Strange, which proved to be a treasure trove of Marvel-related trinkets after concept art for both Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok surfaced online earlier this morning. As for Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2018 ensemble movie, co-writer Stephen McFeely participated in the Infinity War featurette that’s included on Strange‘s home video release, in which McFeely hinted at Thanos’ ultimate goal.

Death to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? How about disbanding the Guardians of the Galaxy once and for all? Not quite. According to McFeely, Thanos wants to bring balance back to the universe and essentially rule undisturbed.

“His goal is to rebalance the universe as he sees it. So when he figures out that the Infinity Stones could do this for him at the snap of a finger, that becomes his main goal.”

After muttering “fine, I’ll do it myself” at the tail-end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, we know that Thanos is in possession of the Infinity Gauntlet, and though McFeely doesn’t specify a plot that involves Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan courting Mistress Death, there’s every chance that the scribe is merely scratching the surface when he says Infinity War‘s megavillain wants to “rebalance” the universe.

Currently lensing in Atlanta ahead of its release in 2018, Avengers: Infinity War will deliver a superhero event movie unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. At least, that’s according to co-director Joe Russo, but after that wondrous featurette, we’re inclined to believe him.
