Meet Conner4Real, the egotistical, larger-than-life superstar at the heart of Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping – AKA The Lonely Island movie.
He’s the dopest of the dope; a musician so aloof to failure that he surrounds himself with an entourage that will compliment and never criticize – celebrating even though he missed a basketball shot is a case in point. It’s all terribly bright and fluffy, and the exact brand of comedy that The Lonely Island made their name for.
Toplining the Popstar as Conner4Real is Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) alongside fellow members of The Lonely Island Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. Judd Apatow is attached to produce, and the general gist of the story will see Samberg’s lead coming to terms with a personal crisis after his sophomore album flops rather spectacularly. Maybe Conner4Real isn’t so bulletproof after all.
Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, Maya Rudolph, Adam Levine and Adam Levine’s hologram round out the ensemble cast, with cameos aplenty expected.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping brings an Internet phenomenon to the silver screen when Andy Samberg and the rest of The Lonely Island dance all the way into theaters on June 3.
Universal Pictures’ POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island. The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.
