The Meg Gets Super-Sized Poster And Two Silly New Promos

Warner Bros. has unleashed a super-sized poster and two suitably silly posters for The Meg – just in time for the film's release in August.

You have to hand it to Warner’s marketing team, as they’ve truly embraced the silliness of The Meg, Jon Turteltaub’s deep-sea thriller that resurrects a long-dormant monster in the megalodon.

Standing in its way is Jason Statham’s gruff diver, Jonas Taylor, who can be seen journeying through hell and high water in today’s pair of promos for The Meg. There’s also an exclusive poster from Dolby Cinemas (h/t Bloody Disgusting) to pore over, which once again pokes fun at Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and its own killer shark.

Meanwhile, the following promo contains a sliver of new footage for Warner’s deep sea thriller, as we see Statham and his team go up against an underwater beast from a bygone era.

So by the time you’ve seen Ant-Man and the Wasp, and experienced sensory overload by way of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Warner Bros. will roll out what is arguably the guiltiest of guilty pleasures.

Story-wise, we know The Meg is a loose adaptation of Steve Alten’s bestseller, and follows Jason Statham on his mission to stop the unstoppable. Flanked by a Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao) and his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), Statham’s Jonas Taylor dives beneath the waves in order to confront Warner’s prehistoric monster. And if the movie resonates at the box office, there’s every chance the Powers That Be will pursue a direct sequel. The Meg 2: Electric Boogaloo, anyone?

The Meg swims into select theaters on August 10th, and below, you’ll find that neon poster from Dolby Cinemas, which takes more than a few cues from the sun-soaked posters for Kong: Skull Island, another Hollywood feature headlined by an impossibly-sized creature.
