After a lot of speculation over the release date of John Hillcoat‘s The Wettest Country In The World, The Weinstein Company have finally given us an exact day. Despite the fact that many said the film would make an Oscar push, it seems that the Weinsteins have other plans as they will release it on April 20th, 2012.

Honestly, this is a real disappointment. With an A-list cast which consists of Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Shia LaBeouf, Mia Wasikowska, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce and Jason Clarke, you would think that this would be perfect for awards season.

Whether the final cut of the film didn’t turn out too well, or they just needed a film to fill the Spring slot, is unknown right now. I guess we’ll find out soon though.

That being said, I really can’t see this one turning out poorly, not with the talent involved. So why the April release date then? Who knows but like I said, only a couple more months till we find out.
