The first poster for Thor: The Dark World has been revealed today, showing us that the marketing campaign for the film is finally starting to kick into gear. As of now, we still don’t know a whole lot about the Marvel Phase Two film, though seeing as its November 8th release date is still a while away, that is to be expected.

Directed by Alan Taylor and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins, the film will reveal its first trailer next week. It will be attached to Iron Man 3, which opens up overseas starting on April 24th.

As for the poster, I think it looks pretty good. It features the titular hero striking a pose in a rainstorm as he looks out towards the distance. He’s holding his iconic hammer too, which is channeling some serious lightning. Personally, I like it better than the promotion we saw for the first film and hopefully they keep up the solid work with the marketing campaign.

Though I didn’t love the first Thor, I am looking forward to this one. I’m interested to see how Phase Two of Marvel’s plan will unfold and where the story is going to take us. I’m also excited to see the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed, who will be played by Christopher Eccleston, which should be a nice treat for Dr. Who fans like myself.

Check out the poster and plot summary for Thor: The Dark World below and let us know what you think in the comments.

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
