Matt Lanter, best known for his roles across 90210 and NBC’s ongoing Timeless series, is the latest addition to Pitch Perfect 3‘s starry cast.
Variety has the scoop, revealing that Lanter now joins the recently cast John Lithgow for Universal’s musical threequel. Details on both Lanter and Lithgow’s respective characters are being kept locked away for the time being – ditto for the film’s actual plot – but we know they’ll be sharing the screen with Barden Bellas old and new: Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Hailee Steinfeld and Brittany Snow. Orange is the New Black fan-favorite Ruby Rose has also closed a deal to star, though it remains to be seen whether Rose – Hollywood’s newfound action heroine following roles in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter 2 – will be swapping a gun for a microphone come December.
Behind the scenes, Trish Sie is at the helm for Pitch Perfect 3, and is poised to make her feature film debut following extensive work crafting music videos. Universal drafted Sie in to replace Elizabeth Banks, who bowed out of the director’s chair citing family commitments and a bustling schedule. Don’t worry, the soon-to-be Power Rangers star will still reprise the role of Gail in Pitch Perfect 3, one half of the franchise’s irreverent commentary team alongside John Smith (John Michael Higgins).
The Barden Bellas will form their reunion when Pitch Perfect 3 lights up theaters on December 22nd. That’s only a week after the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, though Universal is clearly confident that Trish Sie’s star-studded threequel can carve out an audience of its own under the shadow of Rian Johnson’s sci-fi blockbuster.
