Tom Hiddleston no longer seems to be playing coy about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; he genuinely doesn’t appear to know what’s next for Loki. While common sense says that the God of Mischief will return in Thor: Ragnarok, the Crimson Peak star has yet to hear from Kevin Feige and company, and that means he’s as in the dark as the rest of us.
Of course, as Thor: The Dark World ended with Loki sitting on Odin’s throne disguised as the All-Father, there’s no way he isn’t going to factor into Thor: Ragnarok. Throw in the fact that Thanos no doubt wants revenge against the villain for failing him during the events of The Avengers, and it honestly wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Loki in Avengers: Infinity War, too.
Regardless, Hiddleston had this to say in a recent interview about what he believes the future holds in store for the fan-favourite bad guy:
“You know, I genuinely do not know. I wish there was something I could tell you. I haven’t spoken to anyone at Marvel for about two years. That universe is expanding at such a rate, so…your guess is as good as mine. That’s all I know that he’s been doing [ruling Asgard]. I’m interested to see what’s happened in the time between. I like to believe that actually he runs Asgard pretty well. The trains run on time and he keeps the streets clean.”
Loki was supposed to cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that was cut at the last minute when test audiences became confused about whether or not he was the sequel’s actual villain. If they thought of including him there, you have to believe that Marvel Studios has major plans for the character, so don’t be surprised to hear official word about him being in Thor: Ragnarok sooner rather than later.
