New Trailer For A J.J. Abrams Project Fulfills The Name Of Teaser

There are things that should be kept secret, and things that should not, and J.J. Abrams sometimes does not know the difference. Did we really need to keep the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch's character in Star Trek Into Darkness such a secret? No, not really. But sometimes Abrams and his marketing boys get things right; this is one of those times. In a teaser for an as-yet unnamed Abrams project with Bad Robot, we are left wondering just what is going on, what the trailer is for and why that guy's mouth is all stitched up. And you know what? It's pretty intriguing.

There are things that should be kept secret, and things that should not, and J.J. Abrams sometimes does not know the difference. Did we really need to keep the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in Star Trek Into Darkness such a secret? No, not really. But sometimes Abrams and his marketing boys get things right; this is one of those times. In a teaser for an as-yet unnamed Abrams project with Bad Robot, we are left wondering just what is going on, what the trailer is for and why that guy’s mouth is all stitched up. And you know what? It’s pretty intriguing.

What we see in the teaser is a man stumbling around in the water – looks like the sea or a harbor to me, as there appears to be a tide – while a rather deep-voiced gentleman that I feel like I recognize narrates very portentously. Things are said about beginning in the water and going back to the water. Then we get a brief and creepy glimpse of the man’s face, with stitched up lips and I get creeped out as the words ‘Soon He Will Know’ slowly vanish from the screen. The video on the Bad Robot YouTube page is just called ‘Stranger,’ which doesn’t give us much to go on. It is, indeed, very strange.

If you think you have an idea as to what this trailer is for, please let us know. It could very well be an unannounced project, which means that we’ll have difficulty pinpointing what it is until Abrams decides to tell us. I’m totally stumped on this one, but I guess that’s exactly where Abrams wants me to be. It’s certainly bringing back the name of teaser, isn’t it?

You can check out the teaser below and let us know what you think about this marketing ploy in the comments. Any votes?
