After yesterday saw the arrival of the first poster for Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, today sees the release of the first trailer.

From the looks of it, I think the Tom Cruise comeback is going to continue. After re-establishing himself as a bonafide action star with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the mega movie star could find huge success again with Oblivion. In the film, he’ll play the role of a “lonely drone repairmen on the remains of an Earth devestated by an alien invasion. He’s rescued by a beautiful woman (Olga Kurylenko) from a crashed ship and he soon uncovers secrets that call into question everything he knows.”

Of course, coming from Kosinski, you knew there would be some impressive visuals and from what we see in the trailer, this will definitely be a treat for the eyes. I really like the post-apocalyptic look that he’s gone with and I can’t wait to see this in IMAX. It’s also clear that the director has pulled from a lot of other sci-fi classics as influences from films like Twelve Monkeys and I Am Legend can be seen throughout the trailer.

Unfortunately, we don’t get much in terms of story but I feel like this is a film where the less you know about the story the better. That being said, what we do get looks intriguing and as of now, I’m definitely excited for this one.

Co-starring Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo, Oblivion opens on April 19th, 2013.

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
