Transformers: The Last Knight Super Bowl Ad Goes Big

For the three people who might not know, the Super Bowl is this weekend. While it's a pretty big deal for football fans, there's more to the big game than just watching a bunch of overpaid athletes throw around the pigskin. Aside from being an excuse to get together with friends and eat enough pizza and wings to put you into a food coma, it's also a great time for studios to put their biggest upcoming releases in front of a massive audience.

Every year, the Super Bowl brings with it trailers for the summer’s blockbusters and this weekend will be no different. Ghost in the ShellLifeThe Fate of the Furious and more will all strut their stuff on Sunday and now, we can add one more to that list: Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight. Paramount has dropped the bite-sized version of the Super Bowl spot for the film today, giving us a preview of what’s in store for us in just a few days’ time when the full thing airs.

As expected, the preview adopts a go big or go home mentality, as is typical of the franchise, as it teases the bombastic action that we’ll be assaulted with this June. It’s all fairly standard stuff for the over-the-top series, and if you’ve enjoyed what Bay has delivered in the past, you’ll likely feel right at home with what’s being offered here. Explosions, larger than life robots duking it out, nonsensical plots – it’s all hinted at in this big, loud, teaser and as far as Super Bowl trailers go, it hits the mark.

In addition to the promo, we’ve also got a new plot synopsis to mull over, which tells us that the Transformers are at war and Optimus Prime is gone. Check it out below:

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Transformers: The Last Knight will storm into theaters on June 23rd. Take a look at the new Super Bowl spot above and be sure to stay tuned for the full, extended version, as we’ll have it for you this Sunday!
