Tris, Four And Their Fellow Divergents Explore A Ruined Chicago In First Teaser For Allegiant

Undeterred by the less-than-stellar performance of this year's Insurgent - both in critical and financial circles - Robert Schwentke and Summit Entertainment are edging closer and closer to the grand two-part finale of their Divergent series, with today heralding the first teaser trailer for the maiden installment, Allegiant.

Undeterred by the less-than-stellar performance of this year’s Insurgent – both in critical and financial circles – Robert Schwentke and Summit Entertainment are edging closer and closer to the grand two-part finale of their Divergent series, with today heralding the first teaser trailer for the maiden installment, Allegiant.

Ditching the suffix now that the conclusive chapter has been renamed to Ascendant, both parties will be aiming to send the series out on a high note across the next two years, and it’s all about to kick off next March. Perhaps in an effort to expand the film’s reach, today’s clip acts as a concise story recap, streamlining the events of the first two installments before introducing Tris and Four – Shailene Woodley and Theo James, respectively – as they make tracks to venture beyond the wall.

No White Walkers in this fantasy universe, though – Allegiant opens with a striking view of a decimated Chicago, where the Windy City merely acts as a small fragment of a much larger post-apocalyptic canvas. Funnelled through newcomer Jeff Daniels, Tris’ mission revolves around saving the world – surprise! – with the likes of Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Naomi Watts and Maggie Q rounding out the ensemble cast.

Summit Entertainment will begin to bring the curtain down on its YA cinematic franchise when The Divergent Series: Allegiant lands in theaters come March 18, 2016, followed in quick succession by the newly-titled Ascendant on March 24, 2017.

After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago. For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known in order to find a peaceful solution for their embroiled city. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love.
