The Wasp Battles Ghost In Awesome New Ant-Man 2 Clip

Evangeline Lilly's Wasp takes on the villainous Ghost in this new clip from Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and the Wasp, which drops into theaters this Friday.

Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp has waited a very long time for her big superhero break – too long, perhaps.

We know that Joss Whedon once considered including her in The Avengers, before ultimately carving out a bigger role for Black Widow instead. But that’s not the only near-miss from Hope van Dyne’s MCU career, as Lilly revealed earlier this week that her character almost suited up for Captain America: Civil War as well before the Russos reconsidered.

From what we understand, the studio wanted to hold fire on Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp, as a character of her stature deserves a full-blown movie arc, which she now has in the form of Ant-Man and the Wasp. And if the clip above is any indication, Hope’s going to kick some serious ass when she finally suits up, as we see her taking the fight to the villainous Ghost here and holding her own, for the most part.

Of course, if you’ve been keeping up with the marketing campaign so far, you should already be familiar with Ghost, the mysterious costumed antagonist played by Hannah John-Kamen who’ll endeavor to steal Hank Pym’s tech. Her true motivations have yet to be divulged, of course, but we’ve got a pretty good idea of what’s going on. From what we can tell, it seems as if she’s being employed by Walton Goggins’ corrupt business rival Sonny Birch, who no doubt wants Pym’s ingenious inventions for his own ends.

Set to bridge the gap between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity WarAnt-Man and the Wasp will be flying into theaters this Friday. On pace for a debut in the ballpark of roughly $75 million stateside, the Peyton Reed-directed sequel won’t be challenging for any box office records, but it will certainly help the MCU end off what’s already been a banner year on a high note.
