You’d have to cast your mind back to the release of the original X-Men in 2000 to pinpoint Hugh Jackman’s debut as Wolverine. Since then, the Aussie actor has donned those iconic claws throughout sequels, reboots and origin stories but in 2017, James Mangold’s Logan will close the book on that celebrated legacy – and looks to do so in some style, as this latest black-and-white image attests.

Hailing from the ever-active Wponx Instagram feed, here we get a glimpse of Wolverine in full-on battle mode. The moon is shining, the claws are unsheathed, and what we assume to be a dead body is lying at Jackman’s feet. It’s an eerie shot that wouldn’t look out of place in a werewolf film, and effectively drives home the point that Logan is shaping up to be an entirely different breed of superhero action.

Logan prowls into theaters on March 3, 2017 and surely – surely! – all of these monotone photos will lay the groundwork for a black-and-white cut of Mangold’s sequel when the times comes for the Blu-ray release, right? Sheer demand eventually brought us the black-and-white cut of Mad Max: Fury Road, so who knows. Time will tell.

For now, tell us, what do you make of the film so far? Are you looking forward to Wolverine’s final adventure? Sound off below and give us your thoughts!
