Here’s What X-23 May Look Like As All-New Wolverine

With news that Fox and James Mangold are plotting an X-23 spinoff, one concept artist has imagined Dafne Keen in the role of All-New Wolverine.

Between them, 20th Century Fox, James Mangold (Logan) and comic book scribe Craig Kyle (Thor: Ragnarok) are dreaming up a spinoff movie for X-23, the young mutant brought to life with real intensity by the up-and-coming Dafne Keen.

It’s still gestating in the formative stages of development, mind you, given Fox only made the project official late last month, but thanks to concept artist Masaolab (via ComicBook.com), we now have a sneak peek at what Dafne Keen may look like as “All-New Wolverine.”

Kitted out in full X-Men gear, this concept art is something special, as it imagines Laura/X-23 donning the adamantium claws as Wolverine’s one true successor. Loosely based on the aesthetic of Tom Taylor’s comic book series, below you’ll see Keen in action as X-23, who appears to be smashing her way through some sort of concrete wall. In addition, there’s also a subtle Photoshop job that substitutes Hugh Jackman’s mutant for Laura on the sun-kissed Logan poster.

Check it all out in the gallery down below, along with some awesome shots of the character in action.

Despite clawing its way onto a slate that currently includes Gambit, Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants and an untitled Deadpool sequel, there are precious few details available for James Mangold’s X-23 movie. All we know so far is that the director name-dropped Patty Jenkins when discussing his approach to what is essentially a female-driven superhero pic, though we imagine Fox’s much-requested offshoot will retain the Western sensibilities of Logan, rather than getting caught up in the fantastical elements of Wonder Woman.

Exactly when the finished product will arrive is another question entirely, but we’re still pleased to report that an X-23 movie is officially a thing that exists. With a director. And a writer. And let’s not forget about Dafne Keen’s breakout performance! Suffice it to say, there’s plenty to look forward to.
