Zoe Saldana is a busy bee. Between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar sequels and, potentially, a role in Star Trek 4, the prolific actress has filled her slate with a host of exciting roles for years to come, and we now have word of another project to add to the collection.
Per Variety, Saldana has officially saddled up for the My Little Pony movie, Lionsgate’s cutesy animation helmed by Jayson Thiessen. Little is known about Saldana’s character at the moment, but we understand the so-hot-right-now actress will be joined in the voice booth by Kristin Chenoweth, Emily Blunt, Taye Diggs, Liev Schreiber, Sia, Uzo Aduba, and War on Everyone star Michael Peña. The addition of the Guardians actress comes hand-in-hand with the film’s official and suitably radiant logo, which you can find below.
Meghan McCarthy, the creative force behind the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic animated series, has been elected to pen the script for Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation, and from the precious few story details available, we know the Little Pony movie orbits around the Mane 6: Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity. They’re the brilliant residents of Ponyville who leave their idyllic home behind to embark on a journey that involves meeting new friends and challenges along the way. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, however; Ponyville is placed under threat from a nefarious evil, forcing our pint-sized heroes into action as they attempt to restore peace to Equestria.
Look for My Little Pony to trot into theaters on October 6, 2017.
