In the past fifteen years or so, the undead have dominated pretty much every facet of pop culture, be it in movies, TV, video games, or comic books. That said, I must confess to being among the ilk who’ve grown tired of flesh-eaters, barring some sort of refreshing take on the sub-genre.
As you may have guessed, I really dug Zombieland, what with its fusion of horror and comedy that boasted some great characters to boot. To me, it was about the closest thing we’ve gotten on this side of the Pacific to a live action adaptation of Dead Rising.
So, if you were expecting a sequel to follow in the handful of years after the first film’s 2009 release, odds are that you’ve also been feeling a sense of disappointment. Fortunately, things seem to be back on track. In fact, a recent rumor even stated that the project is further along than any of us could’ve anticipated.
In case you hadn’t heard, tickets to a supposed showing of what was referred to as “Zombieland 2: Double Tap” were being sold for a screening set to occur on June 7. Naturally, this led some to speculate as to whether the movie had already been filmed.
Thankfully, we now have a concrete answer regarding what’s going on, as screenwriter Rhett Reese had this to say on Twitter:
“The stories that a Zombieland sequel is in the can are as fake as fake news gets. Sorry, guys.”
Well, there you have it: Zombieland 2Â exists as nothing more than an idea at this point, so there’s no need to get overly excited. Though if you do own a ticket to the screening in question, we recommend that you find some way to get your money back.
