Long time, no Z! Paramount Pictures continues its marketing pizazz today with a trio of TV spots and clips for Ben Stiller’s long-awaited comedy sequel, Zoolander 2.
Shoehorned in between the footage, which is really a mix of old clips diced with a few never-before-seen teases, is a viral marketing advert for Alexanya Atoz’s (a near-unrecognizable Kristen Wiig) seemingly miraculous beauty product, Youth Milk.
Indeed, Atoz’s faux fashion icon isn’t the only slice of Paramount’s promotional material to herald the arrival of Stiller’s Zoolander 2 with a wink and a nudge. Earlier this week, the actor remained fully in character as the loveable delinquent Derek to answer 73 burning questions about the changing fashion world, his muse, and the first thought that popped into that capacious head of his. His inability to turn left was even referenced, too.
That’s a running thread though today’s array of TV spots and clips, and fans of the cult 2001 original release will pick up on many of the references, be it Todd getting unfairly drenched with a piping hot latte or Ben Stiller’s Derek carelessly dancing while behind the wheel.
Joining him for next month’s European escapades are Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell and Cyrus Arnold, while the jam-packed list of cameos includes Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kyle Mooney, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and many more.
Zoolander 2 will ask the big question (why kill Justin Bieber?) when Stiller and Justin Theroux’s comedy follow-up debuts on February 12.
