In news that was met with resounding anguish from the dance music community at large, global techno icon Carl Cox recently announced that he would conclude his fifteen-years-running Space Ibiza residency after 2016. Not one to let such a turn of events put a damper on things, though, the DJ/producer has announced that he will fill some of his newfound free time by curating a festival beginning the same year.
Pure will launch in 2016 and will tour between a handful of cities throughout Australia, although the only confirmed cities as of this writing are Melbourne and Sydney. The lineup will consist predominantly of – you guessed it – underground house and techno artists, and Cox hopes to grow the festival into something that will return annually.
In an interview with InTheMix, the DJ said:
We haven’t decided exactly where we’re going to do them or who’s coming to the table, but when we last spoke to all of the international DJs who are interested in being involved in our festival, they’ve all said, yep, we’d like to do it. A lot of it will just be down to availability and timing, but primarily you’re going to have the best DJs playing the best music.
