Under their Jack Ü project, Skrillex and Diplo are roughly halfway through their esteemed Full Flex Express train tour through Canada, and now, a recording of a frenetic live set from their Toronto date has surfaced. I’ve been pretty hard on Jack Ü in the past, but I’ve gotta give credit where credit is due – loaded with the duo’s famous releases, edits and as-yet-unidentified IDs alike, this set stands out as one of the more memorable ones I’ve heard this summer.
Of course, that’s ignoring some of the obvious camp that’s to be expected from the Jack Ü brand. It certainly doesn’t help your street cred to start your set with your breakout single, and bass music DJs spend way too much time on the microphone for my liking.
Aside from that, though, the frenetic mix jumps from style to style impressively with inventive transitions, effectively capturing the breadth of EDM in an immensely engaging fashion. Kiesza’s vocal performances during a handful of tracks were impressive as well, and contributed to the energy of the set undeniably.
