I’ve admitted it before and I’ll admit it again: One major mark against my street cred is my inexorable sweet tooth for tropical house. I wasn’t really sold on Kygo‘s recent “Piano Jam” compositions and really just wanted him to return to his pan flute-heavy brand of electronic music, and it looks like he’s heeded my prayers.
“Here for You,” which dropped earlier this month, is classic Kygo, from Ella Henderson’s enchanting vocals down to its meandering synth melody. An accompanying music video was released this week and it depicts a tender romance against the backdrop of a handful of picturesque settings, with various moments slowed down for dramatic effect. This track is nothing groundbreaking, but all the same, it’s exactly what I wanted it to be.
As Kygo’s releases have been few and far between this year, we can only hope that “Here for You” is a sign of more to come from the Norwegian DJ/producer. With the growing popularity of trop house in live music events the world over, there’s certainly a demand outside of my own.
