Leave it to Major Lazer to make any unlikely union all the more likely. The Diplo-headed Jamaican dancehall outfit calls upon a veritable revolving door of collaborators for its original productions, and has added Dutch progressive house group Showtek to the ever-growing list.
For what it’s worth, though, “I’m A Believer” does strike a peculiar balance between both acts’ respective styles. The trap buildup heavily incorporates characteristics of dancehall, with the drop itself driven largely by the barbaric sort of synth lead that would rock bodies in front of a festival main stage.
For that matter, though, Showtek themselves are notorious for dramatically changing their style. Where the old Showtek was strictly a hardstyle outfit, their new sound emulates that of other Dutch artists signed to labels like Spinnin’ Records.
The above recording of Major Lazer and Showtek’s “I’m A Believer” was taken at AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France. Keep your eyes peeled for a high-quality version through Armada Music as the 2016 festival season unfolds.
