Reuters tells us that Alan Cumming has re-upped his contract on The Good Wife for three more seasons with the condition that the series gets renewed first. CBS has not announced yet if the show will get a third season pickup, but the show remains on the bubble averaging around a 2.0 in the 18-49 demo and 10.5 million viewers.
The Good Wife routinely is the lowest Sunday-Thursday program for CBS, but with series star Julianna Margulies winning major awards and critical acclaim from many critics, it puts CBS in a tough position. The show is still a few seasons away from a good syndication deal but can the network risk below-average ratings to please everyone?
With network upfronts less than a month away, CBS is the network to watch to see what they decide with their dramas. While they have strong contenders in NCIS and Criminal Minds, new shows like Chaos and The Defenders have failed to capture an audience…which could mean great news for The Good Wife.
