Bruno Mars is all about gold when it comes to the album cycle of his upcoming record, 24k Magic, but now, he’s getting a taste of a different element: Diamond. His joint effort with musician Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk,” was just recently certified Diamond by the RIAA for moving over ten million units.

Surprisingly, there hasn’t been many Diamond singles throughout history, despite the fact that streaming a song 1,500 times counts as ten track sales. Considering “Uptown Funk” has been streamed nearly a billion times, you would have thought that it would’ve hit the mark sooner. The song is in pretty good company, too: since Diamond became a thing back in 1999, some of the singles that have also exceeded ten million include Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” and Macklemore And Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop.”

It makes sense that Bruno Mars is heading in a similar “Uptown Funk” direction with his 24k Magic songs, as the title track and live performance of the new song “Chunky” both have a vibe that sounds like all three tracks were recorded in the same sessions. You can’t knock him for rolling with what works, though, and it’s only a matter of time until one of those new songs follow in the footsteps of “Uptown Funk.”
