EA revealed at Gamescom today that upcoming sci-fi horror sequel Dead Space 3 will be released on February 5, 2013 in North America, followed by a European release on February 8.

Relocating the action from space to the frozen tundras of the planet Tau Volantis, the game will follow protagonists Isaac Clarke and Sergeant John Carver as they attempt to stop the Necromorph alien threat of the first two games for good.

Dead Space‘s horror element was an integral part of the first two games, and the threequel’s addition of drop in/drop out co-op mode, along with a heightened focus on action, drew a mixed reaction at E3 in June, where the game was officially announced.

But mixing things up a bit could be necessary to stop the series going stale. In any case, you’ll be able to decide for yourself when Dead Space 3 hits shelves in February.
