Dick Grayson Faces A Whale Of A Problem In Nightwing #12

Since the beginning of Rebirth, it was obvious that DC's mission statement was to chart new territory from a storytelling standpoint while also honoring their rich history in ways that some jaded fans felt were ignored during the days of the New 52. While I can't agree with peoples' complaints entirely, there was some validity to their dismay.

Since the beginning of Rebirth, it was obvious that DC’s mission statement was to chart new territory from a storytelling standpoint while also honoring their rich history in ways that some jaded fans felt were ignored during the days of the New 52. While I can’t agree with peoples’ complaints entirely, there was some validity to their dismay.

One such book that took some time to find its footing was Nightwing. Although Dick Grayson was thankfully once again suiting up in the black and blue costume that many – myself included – preferred when it came to color schemes, this title still played out a bit like its predecessor, Grayson, retaining the feel of an international spy thriller as opposed to the urban vigilante we all yearned for.

Since the “Bludhaven” arc kicked off and returned to Dick to, well, Bludhaven, things have felt “just right,” so to speak. Seeing him kicking butt again for the very first time in a familiar haunt (hey, we are talking continuity reboots here) was the simple ingredient this book needed to make purists feel right at home. Add to that some familiar faces stopping by, who may forge an uneasy alliance with our hero, and that sounds like a recipe for success.

For more on this week’s issue, check out the official synopsis below:

BLUDHAVEN” part three! The body count in Blüdhaven continues to rise! Nightwing will have to team up with the Run-Offs to discover who the murderer is and clear the name of the Defacer. But before they can even begin they cross paths with the killer, Orca, and her Whaler Gang.

Nightwing #12 arrives in comic shops this Wednesday, January 4.
