Has hell frozen over? Have pigs started flying? Or should I say pig-cops? It’s been 13 years in the making but Duke Nukem Forever is finally dated. It will be releasing on May 3rd, 2011 in the US and May 6th for the rest of the world.

The game was first announced by the original Duke developers 3D Realms in 1997 and ended up in development limbo for years. Already an industry joke at this point as being the game that will never see the light of day turned into crushed fanboy dreams when 3D Realms closed down last year. Then to everybody’s surprise, not only did we get news that Gearbox, the developers of Borderlands, resurrected the title and will take over as lead developers, but they also presented a playable version of the game in October.

Now the only question is whether the long-awaited title will live up to fans’ expectations after waiting patiently for so long. Duke Nukem 3D was one of the first First Person Shooters that I fell in love with so my personal expectations are pretty damn high.

How do you all think it will turn out? Let us know in the comments
