Exclusive Preview: Plain Sight Continues In Supergirl #17

Lately, it seems like the current run of Supergirl has had multiple factors contributing to its success. Not only is it a good comic book in its own right, but it also has the hit CW series to benefit from. After all, there had to be more than just a few new casual readers jumping on board once this title relaunched, right?

Still, it’s admirable that series writers Steve Orlando and Jody Houser have opted not to make the book a carbon copy of the TV show, but retained some similar elements such as the DEO and having the Danvers family prominently featured.

Coincidentally enough, Kara Zor-El has had some formidable foes to deal with on both the printed page and the small screen of late. Over on The CW, she was recently served a brutal beating by Reign, and here, she has to contend with Deceilia, whom I think looks more like TV’s Reign than that character looks like her original comic book counterpart. Regardless, we think this is probably more coincidence than synergy, but applause goes to the creative team either way.

Not to get too distracted, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t compliment both covers for this particular issue. As you can see via the gallery above, regular artist Robson Rocha has cleverly paid homage to Carrie on the standard cover, while fan favorite Stanley “Artgerm” Lau continues to hit homeruns with the variant. Suffice it to say, we’re assuming many readers will probably pick up both.

For more, be sure to check out the official synopsis below:

“PLAIN SIGHT” part three! While Kara’s worried about whether Ben Rubel will ask her or rival Belinda Zee to the National City Tech High School dance, Director Bones from the D.E.O. figures out what high school Supergirl attends and crashes the annual party. Will the danger and destruction be enough to finally force Kara to reveal her super-heroic secret I.D.?

Supergirl #17 arrives in comic shops next Wednesday, January 10.
