Gamers expecting to pick up Grand Theft Auto 3 on the PlayStation Store’s PS2 Classics section today will only be able to download a hefty helping of disappointment, as Sony has confirmed that an “unforeseen complication” forced them to pull the game from today’s update.

According to a PlayStation Blog post, a “last minute” licensing problem with one of the game’s audio tracks is the cause of the delay. Rockstar Games is said to be “reviewing” the best way to get GTA3 onto the PSN, but so far there is no word on exactly how long that will take. As it stands now, the title has been moved to a TBA release date.

The announcement that Grand Theft Auto 3 was headed to the PlayStation Store as a PS2 Classic was made late last week, so the only thing we know for sure about this licensing problem is that it has only very recently been discovered.

As always, we will keep an eye on the situation and let you know as soon as Sony reveals a new release date for the GTA3.
