Insomniac Games have mainly worked on the PlayStation family of consoles since their inception. That is about to change though, as the studio has partnered with Electronic Arts to release a multiplatform game known as Overstrike.

Heading to the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime in the future, the game offers four-player co-op with distinctly different classes (an ex-merc, a thief, a scientist, and a detective) available for use. Each one has “unique talents and a tendency to completely ignore protocol.” The merry band has formed together under the title of Overstrike 9 and are fighting against, “a shadowy organization that threatens to wipe out humankind.”

Here is a plot synopsis from the game’s press release:

Set in the near-future, Overstrike follows a team of four elite agents obliterating enemy strongholds using fringe-tech gadgets and lethal teamwork. The members of Overstrike 9 are comprised of an ex-mercenary, Interpol’s most wanted thief, a gifted young scientist and a decorated detective. Collectively, they are the agency’s outcasts. But a shadowy organization threatens to wipe out humankind. Thanks to each agent’s unique talents and a tendency to completely ignore protocol – Overstrike 9 is the only option left. Overstrike blends developer Insomniac Games‘ flair for exotic weaponry and immersive storytelling with a touch of humor in this 4 person co-op action game.
