Martin Sheen Joins Charlie Sheen In Anger Management

In a role that shouldn’t be too much of a stretch, Martin Sheen has been cast as the father of the character played by his real-life son, Charlie Sheen, in the FX TV comedy series Anger Management.

The show is already very much a family affair as another sibling, Ramon Estevez, is an executive producer. However, it’s not yet a full house for the Sheen/Estevez clan as there’s no sign of sister Renée or brother Emilio, who’s probably too busy with his directing career or coaching under-achieving PeeWee hockey teams.

This won’t be the first time that Sheen has worked with his son either, having starred with him in Two and a Half Men, Cadence, Hot Shots Part Deux and Wall Street (in which he also played the father of Sheen junior).

Martin Sheen recently gave an excellent performance as Uncle Ben in the The Amazing Spider-Man (another fatherly, or to be precise uncle-ly, role) confirming that there is still plenty of talent left in him. He’s an all-around solid actor and someone that you can’t really go wrong with.

Anger Management revolves around the life of anger management therapist named Charlie Goodson (Charlie Sheen) who has anger issues of his own. It also stars Selma Blair as Charlie’s therapist and love interest and Shawnee Smith as Charlie’s ex-wife. The show is currently halfway through its initial ten episode run and is about to get picked up for 90 more.

FX boss John Landgraf said regarding the casting of Sheen senior that it “will give an extra dimension and make it a multi-generational family show.”

There’s no doubt that Martin Sheen will bring a touch of quality to the show, and he should be able to perfectly slip into the role.
