Marvel Kicks DC While They’re Down In Spider-Man/Deadpool #12

With all the serious developments having occurred over in the recently concluded Civil War II, it seems as though Marvel wishes to have a little fun before 2016 comes to a close. And what better way to do that than to take a little jab at your biggest competitor? With softball games between rival publishers possibly being a thing of the past, the House of Ideas decided to go with a not so subtle jest in the pages of Spider-Man/Deadpool #12.

Now, many of you will likely agree that there aren’t two characters who simultaneously couldn’t be more different yet more similar than Spider-Man and Deadpool. Yes, I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but when it comes to oddball pairings in the Marvel Universe, these two somehow go together like peanut butter and jelly. In other words, when they get together, expect to see some high-octane action and have a few laughs along the way.

In their latest adventure, they happened to get swept up in some holiday hijinx courtesy of the Roman god Saturn, who’s experiencing a little displeasure due to the fact that his once celebrated holiday of Saturnalia has been transformed into Christmas.

While in the presence of the deity’s physique, Spider-Man couldn’t help but say the following:

“He looks like Zack Snyder made a movie about Santa, but instead of delivering presents, he works out and murders.”

This is no doubt the latest in a handful of dead horse beatings Marvel has directed at Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice this year. While worth a chuckle, the statement is a bit hypocritical given that Deadpool has racked up quite the body count in his day. The moral of the story: Superheroes living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #12 is now available in comic shops.
