Marvel Spoils Return Of A Major Character Ahead Of Legacy’s Release

Are you tired of major comic book publishers spoiling deaths, returns and other significant happenings before anyone has a chance to even read them? Yes? Well, then you must be in space, because nobody can hear your screams.

As you may have guessed (and no thanks to the headline), that proud tradition continues into this week, with the House of Ideas completely blowing the lid off their highly anticipated Marvel Legacy one-shot. Yes, we knew to expect a huge return, but what’s the satisfaction that comes with surprise in comparison to boosting sales?

When recently speaking with ComicBook.com, Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso let the cat out of the bag by saying that Wolverine is returning this week – and he’s bringing an Infinity Stone with him:

“Yes, Logan is back from the dead. After three years of a Logan-free Marvel Universe, Logan is back, claws popped and ready for action. How he came back, why he came back, and just how he came into possession of that Infinity Stone are part of a fascinating story that’s going to unveil soon, and in some unusual places.”

Technically, the Marvel Universe hasn’t been bereft of a Wolverine since the conclusion of Charles Soule’s Death of Wolverine back in 2014 – it’s just that it hasn’t been one from the 616. As you’re probably aware, X-23 has since taken up her father’s mantle and Old Man Logan has crossed over from another universe, but he’s not our Logan, if you know what I mean.

What’s doubly intriguing about all this is that Wolvie’s possession of an Infinity Stone could put him squarely within the crosshairs of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In recent years, they’ve interacted with the likes of Iron Man and The Thing, so seeing them crossing paths with another character that one wouldn’t necessarily associate them with could make for a good read.

Marvel Legacy #1 arrives in comic shops this Wednesday, September 27.
