Legendary Mega Man creator, Keiji Inafune, has announced his departure from Capcom at the end of the month, which has been his home for the past 23 years. His title is currently head of R&D at Capcom and CEO of Capcom online gaming subsidiary Daletto.

In a blog post, titled Sayonara, he explains why. He posts (translated by Kotaku), “There’s nowhere higher for me to go.” He continues, “I’m leaving Capcom with the intention of starting my life over”. He adds that he will not be taking a break and will immediately begin looking for the next challenge, though he did not specify what that will be.

This comes after Inafune received much backlash over his disappointed comments at the Tokyo Game Show this year where he stated, “Man, Japan is over. We’re done. Our game industry is finished.”

In addition to the creation of Mega Man, he is also credited for co-creating other high profile Capcom titles such as Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Onimusha.

Whatever he moves onto next, we wish him the best of luck.
