Speaking at Eurogamer Expo yesterday, Hideo Kojima revealed that the base-building feature from Peace Walker will return in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, adding that players might be able to access it using smart phones and other similar devices.

“The concept of developing weapons at your base is a very cool idea, and something that could be popular. It’s something we’ve been thinking of…”

“Furthermore, nowadays there are various ways to access the game world – you’re not just playing in your living room on your games console. You may also access through your cell phone and other devices and still access that same game. I think in that respect that motherbase system lends itself very well to that system, and that’s something we’re planning on for Ground Zeroes.”

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes‘ base acts as a sort of hub world for the rest of the game, and is accessible by helicopter transport from other parts of the open world map. During the game players will be able to explore the base to discover new features as it is expanded.

Kojima also confirmed that the demo Konami has been showing of the title is running off a PC, however, he stated that the PC is similar in specs to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This means that the final version of Ground Zeroes should boast similar visuals to what has been revealed so far.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is scheduled to release for the Xbox 360 and PS3. A release date for the title has not been announced.
