Secret Empire #0 Variant Cover Offers Best Look Yet At Captain America's Hydra Costume

There’s no denying that Marvel’s upcoming crossover event, Secret Empire, has sparked a veritable brushfire of conversation on message boards, social media and in comic shops alike. Simply put, when Captain America goes bad guy and the rest of the Marvel Universe is forced to set him straight, it’s going to get some attention.

One thing that certainly got people talking was the recent reveal of Secret Empire #0’s standard cover by Mark Brooks that merely hinted at a Hydra-themed costume for Steve Rogers. But now, thanks to ComicBook.com, we’ve been granted a glimpse at John Tyler Christopher’s action figure variant cover that gives a full body look at what’s likely the complete ensemble.

Being more of a color palette swap, it’s not as imaginative as one would expect but still looks pretty cool nonetheless. If you were to ask me, it’s like comparing Reptile to Sub-Zero in the earliest of Mortal Kombat video games.

Getting back to the idea of the Marvel Universe having to unite against Cap, Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso had this to say:

“Secret Empire is the rallying cry for all the heroes — Avengers, Guardians, Defenders, X-Men, Spider-Man, Deadpool – to put aside their differences and unify in the defense of the Marvel Universe.”

Knowing that Rogers has the backing of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra and a Chitauri army, we suspect that this will indeed be an all hands on deck situation. As of now, the event is scheduled to run for nine issues, but some recent Marvel crossovers have often had to tack on another in order to have enough room to properly finish their story, something we’re not ready to rule out.

Secret Empire #0 is scheduled to arrive in comic shops this April.
