Miiverse is a “Mii Universe” for the Wii U and was announced yesterday by Satoru Iwata, global president of Nintendo. The Miiverse will be the first thing you see when you boot up the console and represents Nintendo‘s steps into social networking.

The Miis (Nintendo‘s avatar system) will gather round game titles that are trending at that time, with users being allowed to send typed or drawn messages to one another via the Wii U Game Pad.

Today at their E3 press conference, Nintendo announced that they also wish to see the Miiverse spread to platforms such as the 3DS, PC or mobile.
