syndicate Starbreeze Cuts Staff After Syndicate Launch

With the development of Syndicate complete, and EA shipping the franchise reboot out to retailers next week, Swedish based studio Starbreeze has cut their workforce by 25 jobs. Additionally, Peter Tornquist will resign from his position as chairman of the company’s board.

Speaking about the reductions, Starbreeze’s CEO Mikael Nermark said “It is sad that we are forced to make staff cutbacks affecting employees. But we have to reduce staff after the final delivery of the Syndicate.”

Cutting staff after the development of a major title is not uncommon in today’s video game industry, so this move by Starbreeze says less about the health of the company and more about the heavy costs associated with keeping a fully staffed workforce between projects.
