Anticipation for the new season of AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead has been building ever since the season two finale that once again had the small band of survivors on the road. We also got a little hint of things to come with the final shot of the episode revealing a prison nearby.  Could it be that the gang will finally have a permanent safe harbor from the hoards of flesh-eating walkers?

Today, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have several new pics from the upcoming season that feature characters new and old. As far as the new characters go, we get some neat looks at David Morrisey as The Governor and Danai Gurira as Michonne.

The new season looks like it’s shaping up to be pretty good and will likely live up to expectations of fans. As to what we can expect, executive producer Robert Kirkman had this to say:

This season really is about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide and you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor. This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything.

You can catch the new season of The Walking Dead when it premieres on AMC on October 14th.
