ubi Ubisoft Responds To Latest DRM Controversy

If you were looking into picking up Anno 2070, I hope you’re satisfied with the way your computer is now and don’t plan on upgrading anytime soon. See, Anno is limited to 3 activations and, if you were to say, I’m just snowballing here, install a new hard drive or graphics card, you can look forward to purchasing another copy.

Guru3D found out about this the hard way when they were attempting to use Anno as a benchmark for a graphics card article. When they had attempted to install one of the shiny new Radeon 7970s, they managed to run out of three activations on the same computer by making minute changes. Not a huge deal. Surely Ubisoft would be willing to work within these confines and help Guru3D get around this issue.

However, this was their response:

“Sorry to disappoint you – the game is indeed restricted to 3 hardware changes and there simply is no way to bypass that. We also do not have 7 copies of the game for you.”

Oh, Ubisoft. It’s so adorable watching you interact with your PC customers. Be honest, you’re trolling us at this point right? By inserting DRM that directly punishes legitimate buyers, you can claim that the poor sales are due to your claim that “95% of the PC gamers would pirate it,” and not, you know, simply pushing out a shitty product. In an age where PC gaming seems to be hitting record marks for every other company, it’s more than a bit shocking to see you miss the boat this badly.
