Yes, Harley Quinn Is Running For Mayor This Fall

Knowing that Harley Quinn is about to celebrate her 25th anniversary, it's understandable that DC up the ante by taking the character that co-publisher and legendary artist Jim Lee recently described as their "fourth pillar" (Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman being the other three) in crazy new directions. So, in addition to an oversized one-shot hitting stands this fall, readers can look forward to the flagship book paying off a long gestating B-plot.

Knowing that Harley Quinn is about to celebrate her 25th anniversary, it’s understandable that DC up the ante by taking the character that co-publisher and legendary artist Jim Lee recently described as their “fourth pillar” (Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman being the other three) in crazy new directions. So, in addition to an oversized one-shot hitting stands this fall, readers can look forward to the flagship book paying off a long gestating B-plot.

If you’ve been reading Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti’s run on Harley Quinn up until now – in both the New 52 and Rebirth – then you’d know the mayor of New York City is about as corrupt as they come (in the story, of course). To this point, he’s been a constant nuisance to our gal, has employed cannibals to feed on the city’s homeless and, more recently, enlisted the services of Harley Sinn in order to snuff out some of those closest to the titular character.

Well, this fall, it looks like Harley intends on beating him at his own game – and within the law, no less – by making a bid for the mayoral office! Here’s the skinny on issue #27, which kicks off the “Vote Harley” arc:

  • Written by AMANDA CONNER and JIMMY PALMIOTTI
  • Art by JOHN TIMMS
  • Cover by AMANDA CONNER
  • Variant cover by FRANK CHO
  • “Vote Harley” part one! The corrupt mayor of New York City has been a thorn in Harley’s side since the day he stepped into office…and now he’s crossed the line one time too many! Harley’s usual methods of dealing with problems like this have failed her, so it’s time for a more unconventional solution…is New York City ready for Mayor Harley Quinn? It better be!
  • On sale SEPTEMBER 6 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

Then, two weeks later in issue #28, it appears that she’s doing rather well in the polls. So, aside from what’ll no doubt be some interesting campaign slogans and promises, one has to wonder why even she’s surprised by her surging popularity.

  • Written by JIMMY PALMIOTTI and AMANDA CONNER
  • Art by JOHN TIMMS
  • Cover by AMANDA CONNER
  • Variant cover by FRANK CHO
  • “Vote Harley” part two! He’s already sent killers after her and her loved ones…what more can the Mayor do to get Harley Quinn off his back—especially now that she’s gone public in her campaign against him and become shockingly popular? The answer will surprise Harley…and you!
  • On sale SEPTEMBER 20 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

When examining the above solicitations, we can’t help but notice that Paul Dini and Brett Blevins’ names are absent, causing us to wonder if the backup stories will be no more or are simply taking a hiatus. Needless to say, we’ll keep you posted as to what the future holds for Harley Quinn.
