10 Characters Who Could Appear In Legends Of Tomorrow Season 3

The CW's Legends of Tomorrow is a gift for DC fans. As a time-travelling show that stars a bunch of lesser-known characters from the DC universe, it frequently brings in heroes that no one else is really doing anything else with. For instance, season 1 played with people like Hawkman, Hawkgirl and Jonah Hex, while season 2 introduced the Justice Society of America. For season 3, exec producer Marc Guggenheim has already promised that they'll add several new characters to the show. Intriguingly, he also mentioned that one of these would be a well known figure from the DC universe, but not someone who originated from the comics or the other Arrowverse shows. Cue the speculation! Inspired by that statement, and the show's success so far, we've put together a list of 10 heroes we hope to see take a trip in the Waverider next season on Legends of Tomorrow. There are countless characters to chose from here, so as always, if you have one in mind that we failed to mention, make sure to leave them in the comments section down below. More Justice Society Members As we previously mentioned, LoT already introduced the Justice Society in season 2. The line-up on the show consisted of Hourman, Stargirl, Obsidian, Commander Steel, Doctor Mid-Nite and Vixen. They were portrayed, similar to the comics, as a superhero team operating during the 1940s and 50s. The JSA aided the Legends in their hunt to stop the Legion of Doom from getting their hands on the reality-warping Spear of Destiny. Still, while it was fun to see these members last season, we could definitely do with a few more of the JSA turning up in season 3. Especially since some of the most notable members of the team were absent. For instance, gasmask-wearing vigilante Sandman, supernatural superhero The Spectre and Starman - who Stargirl inherited her Cosmic Staff from in the comics. Also, while we're at it, why not bring in Alan Grant, the original Green Lantern? I mean, we're never going to get Hal Jordan on the show, so why not? John Constantine After Keanu Reeves was miscast in the 2003 movie, Matt Ryan was the perfect choice to play John Constatine, Hellblazer, in the 2014 Constantine TV series. Thanks to Ryan's popularity, the character was brought into the Arrowverse in an episode of Arrow's fourth season. While that was great, it's a real shame that he hasn't been seen since. Come on, you know he's just crying out for an appearance in Legends of Tomorrow season 3. Sure, we've got an upcoming animated miniseries starring the character to look forward to, which shows that Constantine's role in the Arrowverse is not yet over, but why not have Ryan reprise the part in live-action first, to remind audiences of the character before his webseries comes out? It would be a clever publicity tactic and a welcome return for a cult favourite. Besides, Legends began to dip into the mystical last season with the Spear of Destiny, so why not introduce a sorcerer into the mix the next time around? The Ray While we're on the subject of animated webseries, the other one that The CW have in the works is The Ray. After Vixen and Constantine's appearances in Arrow season 4, The Ray will be the only animated hero not to have any connection to the live-action universe. That has to change, then, and a perfect place for him to pop up would be LoT season 3. Ray Terrill is a hero with light-based powers and a member of the Freedom Fighters, a superhero team full of lesser-known DC heroes like Black Condor, Phantom Lady and Miss America. Their origins have changed over the years, but the FF tend to come from a dystopian version of the timeline. Seeing as the Legends seemed to find themselves in such a place at the end of season 2, it could be very easy to introduce The Ray and his friends into the show next season. Incidentally, the character will be the first gay superhero to lead his own show (not including the bisexual Sara Lance, of course). If he stuck around in a main role, then, he could help diversify the cast, which currently doesn't include a male gay character. Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond) Now, let's return to that comment from Marc Guggenheim. Many famous DC characters started life outside the comics. One of the most notable is Harley Quinn, and while we're pretty certain that the Joker's girlfriend is not about to join Legends of Tomorrow, how about another creation of the DC Animated Universe? In fan favourite series Batman Beyond, an elderly Bruce Wayne trained up young tearaway Terry McGinnis to inherit the mantle of the Batman and protect a futuristic, but still just as corrupt, Gotham City. As we've discussed before, Terry would be a terrific addition to the Arrowverse. Let's face it, we're never going to see Bruce Wayne pop up on The CW, but having Terry around would allude to his existence in that universe. More importantly, Terry is an awesome character in his own right. An episode where the Waverider crew travel to the cyberpunk Gotham City of the future could be a real highlight of the series. Chloe Sullivan Here's a left-field choice. What if the non-comics character coming to Legends of Tomorrow next season is actually Smallville's Chloe Sullivan? Clark Kent's teenage best friend was an invention of the show but she served a hugely important role across its ten seasons, as she functioned as the young Superman's tech support. Eventually she took on the codename Watchtower, as a nod to the Justice League's HQ in the comics. Chloe is absolutely the progenitor of the Arrowverse's variety of tech support characters. e.g Felicity Smoak, Cisco Ramone and Winn Schott. The Waverider crew don't actually have their own tech support, someone based in the time machine who can help them when they're out on the field, so why not go back to the original and add in a new version of Chloe? Alternatively, Chloe eventually claimed the helmet of Doctor Fate in Smallville, so introducing her could also lead to another DC icon turning up... Doctor Fate Doctor Fate is another Justice Society alumnus who we'd love to see appear in Legends of Tomorrow. As one of the most outright powerful figures in the DC universe, however, we want him to appear in the show even more than the others, so we're giving him his own entry. Unusually, it doesn't much matter who's under the mask as Doctor Fate's power rests in his helmet. The Helmet of Fate holds the spirit of the ancient sorcerer Nabu and it's been passed down through various hosts since the character's creation in 1940. Perhaps the hunt for the helmet could be the central story arc of LoT season 3? We already know that Fate exists in the Arrowverse, as his distinctive gold helmet was previously glimpsed in the pilot of Constantine. Furthermore, Geoff Johns has stated in the past that he's interested in a Doctor Fate series - apparently the helmet's appearance on Constantine was intended as more than just an easter egg - so come on, Geoff, reveal our Fate already. The Question On the other side of the power levels scale we have The Question AKA Vic Sage. Created by Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko in 1967, The Question is a private investigator turned vigilante who hides his face with an artificial skin. Though the character served as the inspiration for Rorschach in Watchmen, the vigilante hasn't got many adaptations under his belt, despite a lot of fans calling for it. If Legends ever wanted to do a noir-ish episode, with a hard-boiled detective operating in a corrupt city, The Question would be perfect to adapt. Alternatively, it could be a good idea to tackle the modern incarnation of the character; Renee Montoya, a Gotham cop who's mentored by Sage to become The Question. You might think that Montoya's role in Gotham would prevent the character from hopping over to the Arrowverse, but actually, both the Dollmaker and - more notably - Ra's al Ghul have featured in both Arrow and Gotham before. Jay Garrick Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-3, has been pretty well-used over on The Flash season 3 this year, as he occasionally turns up to offer Barry some much-needed advice. Still, we would love to see him cross over to Legends as well. In the comics, Jay Garrick is a leading member of the Justice Society (yes, them again), so if he's revealed to be an ally of theirs in the Arrowverse, too, then there's a ready made way to bring him into the fold. Alternatively, Jay also travels through time via the Speed Force, so it wouldn't be too surprising if he bumped into the Waverider. It was previously rumoured that John Wesley Shipp had been given recurring status across Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Other actors who received this included Katie Cassidy and John Barrowman, both of whom appeared in LoT this season. Shipp sadly didn't, but let's hope this rumour comes to fruition next year. Kamandi At the end of Legends season 2, the Waverider crew found out that their earlier actions in the finale had apparently "broke time." When they arrive in Los Angeles, 2017, they discover the city is made up of buildings from across history and dinosaurs roam the streets. To classic DC fans, this will bring one cult hero to mind: Kamandi. Created by the King himself Jack Kirby, Kamandi is also known as The Last Boy on Earth. He hails from a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been wiped out after a mysterious "Great Disaster" and intelligent animals now rule the planet. Now, the timeline introduced in Legends' finale doesn't exactly match up with Kamandi's in the comics, but it is similar enough to suggest the character could put in an appearance next season. Marc Guggenheim has even admitted that he and his team have talked about the possibility of adapting Kamandi in season 3. Let's hope they do, as it would be the perfect time for the character to make his big-screen debut. After all, 2017 is the 100th anniversary of Kirby's birth. Booster Gold There can't be a DC character more requested by fans to appear in Legends of Tomorrow than Booster Gold. As the DC universe's premier time-travelling hero, it just makes too much sense for the character to appear on the show for them to waste the opportunity. Real name Michael Jon Carter, Booster Gold travels from his native 25th century to the present in order to seek glory as a superhero, with the aid of his future tech. Fans love him thanks to his brilliant character arc: he begins as a selfish glory hound but he later grows into a true hero and firm member of the Justice League. And, wait for it, he's also the father of Rip Hunter. There's a ready-made connection to the show right there! Of course, what's probably stopping the Legends team from using Booster is the fact that DC are also working on a movie starring the character. However, it just so happens that Arrowverse exec producer Greg Berlanti is working on it. Surely he can pull some strings to get Booster on Legends of Tomorrow, as well, right?
