8 Characters Who Need To Appear in Daredevil Season 3

Now that we've all seen Daredevil season 2, we can breathe a sigh of relief that it lived up the expectation and was just as good, if not better, than the first season. Like the show’s inaugural run, one of its biggest successes was the use of its characters, brilliantly taking larger-than-life individuals from the comics and retooling them as properly three-dimensional people. While the first season had the amazing Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, we were treated in season 2 to the equally brilliant Elodie Yung as Elektra and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. But who should face the Man Without Fear in the show’s third season? The showmakers still have a a lot of material to mine from the comics, so there are numerous names from Daredevil's history who they should add to the series next. A few might need to be tweaked to properly fit with Daredevil‘s more grounded take on the characters, but all of them would be fantastic additions to the series. So on that note, join us as we explore 8 characters we'd love to see join Matt Murdock in the show's third outing. 8) Bullseye Let’s get the most obvious one out of the way first. Ever since it was announced that Daredevil was getting his own TV show, fans have been expecting his deadshot arch-nemesis to turn up. We've already seen Bullseye on screen thanks to Colin Farrell's, let’s say, larger-than-life take on the role in 2003’s Daredevil movie, but the character really deserves another - ahem - shot. While Kingpin is Daredevil’s primary enemy, his hired assassin Bullseye is the one who always hits Matt Murdock where it hurts – generally in his loved ones. We won’t go into who Bullseye takes out in the comics but, suffice it to say, he has caused Matt some serious personal trauma and loss over the years. We’re pretty sure that Bullseye would be the next character on the showmakers’ ‘to do’ list but, if he isn’t, that needs to be fixed right now. 7) The Owl Yes, Bob Gunton has already played Leland Owlsley – the alter ego of the Owl – in Daredevil season one, as Fisk’s crooked accountant. However, he was not truly the supervillain from the comics, so now we need to see the character properly brought to the screen. In the comics, Owlsley was a successful financier - known as the Owl for his shrewd ability to play the stock market - until he lost his position when he was discovered to be corrupt. He then turned to a life of crime and took a serum which gave him the ability to fly – and eventually caused him to be become more animalistic. Gunton’s character was, of course, killed at the end of season one, but he did mention having a son named Lee. This was surely inserted as a way for the Owl to return as a different character – which is something that needs to happen in season three. Perhaps Leland Jr. becomes the villain in a quest for revenge for his father’s death? 6) White Tiger There have been several incarnations of the White Tiger over the decades, but Angela del Toro is the version of the character who would be the best addition to Daredevil’s ever-growing world of vigilantes. The niece of original White Tiger, Hector Ayala, Angela inherited the Jade Amulet - which gives her incredible strength and martial arts know-how - from her uncle. An FBI agent before she gets the amulet, the comics storyline of Angela’s investigation into Daredevil’s true identity would make for a great plot for the next season. What leads credence to the idea that White Tiger could turn up in Daredevil is the fact that she has been name-checked before in the Netflixverse. Firstly, with the introduction of Iron Fist coming up, Marvel are clearly interested in exploring their more mystical characters. More pertinently, though, her name was dropped recently when Jessica Jones mentioned that Angela del Toro is another private eye working in New York. 5) Echo After presenting an amazing blind superhero, the next move for Daredevil should be to introduce one of the rare deaf superheroes, Echo. It might seem a slightly gimmicky idea, but Echo would be a great addition to Daredevil’s world for a few reasons. The character has a distinctive visual - a white handprint across her face – as well as a lot of story potential. Season two started to deal with how Matt donning a suit to save people has encouraged others to also become vigilantes, too. If season three was to explore that further, Echo would be the perfect figurehead for this. And, if it would seem a touch repetitive to have another kickass love interest for Matt straight after Elektra, Echo could have the character arc that Ms. Natchios usually sports – being sent to kill Daredevil by Kingpin, before eventually siding with him. 4) Mister Fear After Kingpin, Bullseye and the Owl, Mister Fear is probably the next most significant Daredevil villain. When your hero is known as the Man Without Fear, it is irresistible that he would come up against someone who challenges that by using fear as his weapon. Yes, Mister Fear is rather like the more famous Batman villain Scarecrow, as both utilize fear gas, but using similar characters has never bothered comic book adaptations before (Arrow/Hawkeye, for instance) and Mister Fear could be used very differently from that other villain. An interesting Mister Fear story to adapt could be the comics storyline ‘Without Fear’ in which he used a drug to remove the fear of death from everyone in Hell’s Kitchen, making the population near-psychotic and a danger to themselves. Matt Murdock would definitely have his work cut out if this plotline was used in the next season of the show. 3) Maggie Murdock In case you didn't know, the nun who tends to Matt in a flashback scene during season two of the show is hinted to be Sister Maggie, the woman who turns out to be none other than Matt’s mother in the comics. Maggie left the Murdocks when Matt was a baby as she suffered from post-natal depression, leading her to try to hurt her child. Her horror at her actions led her to retire to a convent where she remained out of her son’s life, until fan favourite storyline Born Again" brought her back into contact with Matt. Her arrival would bring some much needed light into Matt’s life, right when he would need it most after losing Elektra. Maggie’s introduction would also hopefully mean that the season would be adapting "Born Again" which, as one of Daredevil’s seminal storylines, the series needs to tackle sooner rather than later. 2) The Defenders We all know that these Netflix Marvel shows are heading towards the truly exciting prospect of the team-up series The Defenders. By the time that Daredevil season three arrives we will have met all four members – we’ve only got Iron Fist to go – so, while it might just sound like we are being impatient, it should be time by then to start having those characters crossover into Daredevil. Or at least, if they want to save the full-on crossover for The Defenders, they should up the connections between all the shows. Even though we had to wait until The Avengers for all the heroes to meet, at least we had Nick Fury wandering around the different franchises. Currently, Jeri Hogarth and Claire Temple (as well as Luke Cage, once his own show arrives) have appeared in two series – could one of them become the linchpin that brings the Defenders together? 1) Typhoid Mary In case you couldn't tell from Elektra, Matt Murdock has a tendency to fall for the wrong women. And they don’t come more wrong than Typhoid Mary, a woman who suffers from split personality disorder and has superpowers to boot. The only character would could top Elektra in the ‘unpredictable love interest’ stakes, Typhoid Mary has three distinct personalities – the sweet and shy Mary, the aggressively sexual Typhoid Mary and the sadistic Bloody Mary. The three have varying levels of telekinesis, pyrokinesis and psionic abilities. It’s fair to say she would make quite an impression if she turned in up in season three. Going on what we said earlier about strengthening the connections between the Netflix shows, Typhoid Mary’s last name is Walker – which means she could be turned into a relation of Jessica Jones’ best friend Trish Walker if added to the series. That would be an interesting turn of events now, wouldn't it?
