As confirmed by EmpireDennis Quaid enters the fray in season 2 in the part of Michael Lennox, and today’s first teaser tees up another confounding conundrum peppered with breathtaking environment shots and some supernatural elements tossed in for good measure. Cut off from the rest of society, the isolated town of Fortitude makes for a chilling breeding ground for all manner of psychological horror. 

With Tucci, Gambon and Eccleston all on board once more, Fortitude also makes room for Jessica Raine, Richard Dormer, Sofie Gråbøl and Johnny Harris.

Hatched by writer-actor Simon Donald, Fortitude simply oozes atmosphere, drawing inspiration from the genre of Scandinavian thrillers that has birthed the likes of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Can the sophomore outing zig where its forebear dragged? We’ll find out early next year.

“Bad things come at night. You’ll need to be ready.” Look for Fortitude to premiere in January of 2017. Those in the UK can catch the Icelandic thriller via Sky Atlantic, while Pivot network will likely air season 2 in the States.
