Cloak & Dagger Will Have Connections To Agent Carter

The TV side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will keep on expanding in Freeform's Cloak & Dagger, the teen-oriented series about a pair of star-crossed lovers who happen to have superpowers. As fans are used to by now, the show won't feature, say, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, but it will tie into the wider MCU in subtler ways. In this case, it will include a familiar corrupt corporation.

If you’ve paid attention in the various movies and TV shows in the franchise so far, you’ll know who the Roxxon Corporation are. The company was first mentioned in Iron Man 2 and went on to feature much more prominently in ABC’s Agent Carter, which ran for two seasons from 2015-16.

Now, their next major role will come in Cloak & Dagger. While talking to Fandom at this year’s Wonder Con, showrunner Joe Pokaski said the following:

“There are large themes, not necessarily characters, but maybe an organization that you have seen before that would only exist in the Marvel Universe.”

What’s more, Pokaski revealed that he and his team went back and studied Agent Carter in order to make sure the two shows’ portrayals of Roxxon matched up. As he reminds us, it’s the mantra of Marvel Televsion chief Jeph Loeb that “it’s all connected.”

“There’s obviously a couple of moments in Agent Carter that we made sure we watched, to make sure that everyone understood that it is all connected, like Jeph said.”

This sort of thinking supports what Loeb has mentioned in the past about how Cloak & Dagger will approach crossovers with other Marvel TV shows. He said that he was open to featuring connections and references but characters from other series would not be appearing. “We don’t want it to become ‘Oh look who stopped by!” in order for you to watch the show,” he said, stating that season 1 will focus on setting up the titular characters, played by Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt.

We’ll get to see how those Agent Carter connections take shape, as well as if there are any other notable crossovers, when Cloak & Dagger arrives on Freeform on June 7th.
